Five Illnesses You Didn’t Know Sex Could Cure

Sex is a pleasurable act that is good for your relationship or helps to bring intimacy between partners but out of the bounds of Orgasm, having sex has its health perks. Sex is actually a cardiovascular exercise in itself and can help prevent one too many sicknesses.

Here are a few:

Man and woman

Kills depression

Apart from the fact that orgasm naturally makes you happy, scientifically, the chemicals released during sex give a calming effect on your body. The sperm contains serotonin which when released gives an antidepressant effect on the woman.

Arrests heart attacks

Most times, people think that with the pounding effect that accompanies sex, it is very easy to have a heart attack. This is not entirely true because sex is good for your heart. In the fitfam term, a round of sex is the same as you walking a mile and for women; the increased level of estrogen released helps combat heart-related diseases.

Anti-aging formula

This is not just about the glow that comes from sex which makes you look happy and ten years younger. While engaged in the act, there is a release of bête endorphins which helps to protect the collagen of your skin. And because oxytocin which lowers your stress level is also released, you always get to look a year younger.

Migraines

Sex is a beautiful substitute for painkillers because it triggers the release of endorphins, which is the body’s natural painkillers and this can reduce or even eliminate headaches completely.

Arthritis

Of course, this is quite obvious. With the movement of joints that occurs during sex, people that suffer from the pain of arthritis can find relief. Sex produces a good amount of cortisone to the body and this reduces inflammation which is the cause of joint pain.

“We have patrol duties for eight hours and rescue exercise can take up to five hours and if you are not fit you can’t do it.

“Likewise pregnant and married women, we can’t take them because that is the rule for uniform services,” Oyeyemi said.

The FRSC boss said that the screening had been going smoothly across the country together with the five states having high concentration of applicants.

“We have states that have high concentration of applicants, like Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Kaduna, Benue, Lagos, Enugu and Oyo.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in the exercise.

Oyeyemi commended the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air force, Police, Civil Defence and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) for their maximum support for the success of the screening.

The FRSC boss said that the ongoing exercise across the country had been transparent, decent and on merit in line with the principle of Federal Character.

Mr Hyginus Omeje, the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, told NAN that over 3,000 degree holders had been screened in Lagos state.

“The screened applicants will start their physical training today and we continue with other cadres on Wednesday.

“The Inspector Cadre will start their screening on Wednesday and Thursday, while Road Marshal Assistants cadre will begin on Friday to Saturday, “ Omeje said.

Mrs Kemi Opakunle, the Acting State Coordinator, Federal Character Commission, Lagos State Office, while given her remarks on the screening exercise, gave kudos to the FRSC officials and other agencies involved in the process.

Opakunle said that the process was transparent, orderly and highly commendable.

The recruitment started on May 28, with the uploading of the application forms on FRSC recruitment portal.

Family of 3 found dead in Bayelsa

By Samuel Oyadongha

YENAGOA—Swali suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, was, weekend, thrown into confusion following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of a commercial tricycle operator (Keke), his wife and younger brother in their one-room apartment.

The man, identified as Orji Igwenta, a native of Ozallah community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State alongside his wife and brother, were said to have died of food poisoning.

The wife, Nkem, an expectant mother, was 34 years old while the brother, Obinna Ogbani, was aged 10.

Though it could not be ascertained how the poisoning occurred, it was gathered that a dead rat was also found in the room, fuelling speculations that the victims might have died of food poisoning.

EPL: Mourinho blames Pogba for Man United’s 1-1 with Wolves

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has said it was “harder to accept” Paul Pogba’s mistake that led them to a shock 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday.

Manchester United took the lead through Fred but Wolves secured a point at Old Trafford following Joao Moutinho’s goal in the second half.

In the build-up to Wolves’ equaliser, Pogba was dispossessed in midfield after he spent too long on the ball and tried an elaborate turn.

The former Real Madrid boss insisted Pogba was fully aware that he would have little time when in possession against Wolves.

“It is a situation where the players knew perfectly that they press in midfield,” Mourinho told BT Sports.

“You don’t have much time to have the ball, to turn, to one-touch. You know you don’t have much of that.

“So you concede in a situation that it’s harder to accept.

“That is one goal you concede. You have 90 minutes to show a different attitude. And I think we have to do better.”

APC’ll rescue C-River from bad leadership in 2019‘

By Emma Una

CALABAR— Nigeria’s Ambassador to Uganda, Etubom Nya Asuquo, has said All Progressives Congress, APC, was on a rescue mission in Cross River State and would in 2019 set the state free from the bad leadership it was currently experiencing in the administration of Senator Ben Ayade of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Asuquo, who stated this in Calabar, weekend, while addressing his supporters said Ayade had plunged the state and its people into depths of despair and only a purposeful leader can redress the devastation the state was going through in the hands of Ayade.

APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole

“The bad roads are not only in Calabar but in Ogoja where Ayade comes from and also in the Central. So, what the state needs at his point in time is someone who has the passion for the welfare of the people and the capacity to turn things around and not the zone the governor should come from.”

The ambassador, who said he had abandoned his ambition to govern the state, told his supporters that he had chosen to remain on his post as an ambassador to serve and make impact at the national level and called on them to support Senator Owan Enoh for the post of governor during the APC gubernatorial primary election

This government is fighting a political war — Junaid Mohammed

By Levinus Nwabughiogu

Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a member of the Second Republic House of Representatives was at the top of public commentaries in articulating the exit of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 elections. Months after the inauguration of Dr. Jonathan’s successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, the same Dr. Mohammed began to dissect the frailties and foibles of the administration.

In this interview, he rebuffs the claim of victory over the Boko Haram insurgency, challenges the sincerity of the administration and says Nigerians on the way forward is for President Buhari to leave quietly. Excerpts:

How would you react to the gale of defections of politicians to different political parties?

It shows you that the polity is not healthy. It is in bad health. It also shows you that in the system of 91 political parties, you cannot get two distinct parties that are in good shape to win an election or lose an election. It shows you that the political system and the country’s judicial system are in bad shape and there cannot be stable political parties in an unstable national political environment.

This is because Buhari and the leadership of APC and those around them made it impossible for Buhari to assume the role of the de facto leader of the party because, in a presidential system, the real leader of the party is not the so-called chairman. It is the President.

How would you react to the prices of nomination forms of the two main political parties especially the APC? President Buhari said he took a loan in 2014 to purchase his form because N27.5 million was too exorbitant for him.

Let me tell you, I have known Buhari since May 1967 when the civil war broke out, through a friend of ours. And one thing I noticed especially since he came into politics, he has always taken liberty with the truth. He has always been economical with the truth and he is very forgetful about what he says.

If you ask him today about what he said yesterday, he can give you a very different answer and attempt to justify it in gabble language. Let me be honest with you; I believe to reduce frivolities, that people who are politically exposed, who are interested in assuming certain political positions should pay a token amount of money.

The purpose is not for the government to recoup its money. So, the idea even the mindset that you try to recoup money for the conduct of electoral process by charging people this kind of outrageous and exorbitant fee is unrealistic, unfair and it does not in any way add credibility to the system and it does not add value to our stability. So, as far as I am concerned, it was wrong then. It is wrong now.

Number two, if an individual either borrows money or steals money or mortgages, whatever he is trying to do in order to go and conduct an election, when he comes in and starts stealing, you should not call him to order.

If you are in the National Assembly at the behest of a governor who was paid N20 million to get in there just for the form in addition to hundreds of millions he’s going to pay; are you really honest and really realistic to imagine that the man just paid that as a joke? He paid money in order to make more money and that is beginning to apply to the presidency itself; to the senators themselves; among them are ex-governors. As far as possible, Nigeria has a duty to attract good people into public service because the destiny of this country may depend on that.

I also believe that in attracting people into service, we accept people of good education and good character. I don’t think that is the case now and we should also have a sense of shame because there are certain things which are legal but which a decent man will not do, not because the law says or forbids it, no.

Buhari doesn’t care about it. Today what is legal today to him, may be illegal tomorrow. What is illegal to him tomorrow, may after tomorrow be legal and to him, the idea of inconsistency, the idea of contradictions does not exist.

Do you agree with some that with the failure to sign the Electoral Act amendment bill that the 2019 election could be at stake?

If he hasn’t signed it, it is bad, very bad. It shows that we are lawless and he has no respect for the rule of law. But I also believe that the election can be held under the previous or the subsisting electoral act. But again, it is a bad sign for our democracy.

Can the National Assembly override the president on that?

They can if they have the numbers. But do you know the game he’s playing which is very dishonourable? He hasn’t formally returned the document to them. Unless the thing has been returned to them, they cannot go and overrule the president because this would mean having to take the vote. And it can be done. But he doesn’t want to return the thing with the reasons we are hearing . And if they decide the reasons are very frivolous, the numbers are there. The constitution is very clear.

Where would you score this administration?

I have done that. I have been consistent. I scored them this way in these areas. I scored them 45 per cent, I think in security, 30 per cent in the management of the economy. I am trying to remember the third aspect I scored them also low.

In all areas I have scored them, there was no area they got more than 40 per cent and I made it clear that they are lying when they said they are succeeding on the Boko Haram issue. They are lying. Boko Haram has become so bold that they are now the ones attacking the army in their new bases, taking over their tanks and personnel vehicles. They are also taking foodstuff from the armed forces.

We have a situation where the top generals who have been leading the army into disgrace are still there and they have their tenure extended every year by Buhari simply because they are the ones he knows or perhaps he has a soft spot for them.

They reclaimed 14 local government areas hitherto occupied by Boko Haram when they came on board.

My friend…how many years ago? Three years in an area you have deserts? If they are reclaiming that, how come Boko Haram insurgents are meeting them at home? If someone cannot guard his house, are you serious to tell me that he has reclaimed 14 local government areas? So please let us stop deceiving ourselves. This government is trying to fight a political war.

Do you think President Buhari will be re-elected in 2019?

If he rigs the election, yes.

How do you mean?

I say if he rigs the election. I agree entirely that he won the election fair and square in 2015 but now, given the state of the economy, given the state of the national security, given the sheer embarrassment he constitutes as the president of Nigeria when he goes outside Nigeria and some of the remarks we hear from him; look at, for example, the utterly meaningless comment he passed to Angela Merkel.

Your wife who has been the closest person to you more than even your children says she will not support you in the subsequent election and she mentioned her reasons and anybody who has been in politics will know that they are very rational reasons. Now you said you don’t want to hear what she says, after all, her job is in the ‘kitchen and the other room.

Do you see PDP returning to power in 2019?

I have never respected and I will never respect PDP as a party but I also believe in a democracy, there must be a peaceful transition. Most of the dangerous practices adopted by APC came from PDP.

Osun Decides: Why INEC decision is justified – Ubani

The immediate-past Second Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Monday Ubani, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on its declaration of the Osun State governorship election as inconclusive.

Ubani speaking to Punch said INEC was justified in law to declare the election inconclusive.

Ubani said: “Since the difference in the number of votes between the two leading candidates of the PDP and the APC was less than the cumulative number of registered voters in the units where votes were cancelled, INEC, by law, has the power to declare the election inconclusive.

“In the Osun election, the leading candidate had 353 votes more than the APC candidate.

“The figure is less than the over 3,000 registered voters in the units where the election was cancelled.

“But whether or not the votes were justifiably cancelled is another question.”

How Ribadu, Buhari’s in-law are confronting Governor Bindow

By Umar Yusuf, Yola

The entry of the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu into the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primary battle in Adamawa State has upturned permutations on the race putting the battle into strategic focus.

Ribadu joins the testy contest for the Adamawa APC governorship ticket into a three horse race with the incumbent, Senator

has joined ADAMAWA Gubernatorial race on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC with a resolve that he will clinch the party ticket during the forthcoming party primary.

*Ribadu

Ribadu’s entry into the race brings to three the number of aspirants jostling to fly the ticket of the ruling party. The others are the incumbent, Senator Mohammad Jibril and a brother=law to the president,

Ribadu was the last of the trio to indicate and declare his intention to canvass for the coveted seat.

Despite his late entry into the race, Ribadu is not new in the contest as had made previous attempts to govern the state after his spectacular 2011 presidential contest.

Ridadu is counting on the on support of the Fulani who reportedly form the majority of voters in the state.

But, the questions being asked by political analysts is whether the likes of Nuhu Ribadu and President Buhari’s in-law can unseat Governor Jibrilla, who seems to be favored by the indirect primary to be adopted at the primaries.?

This is because the governor has the delegates in his camp and the power of incumbency might not be ignored as the d day to the primaries draw closer.

Osun decides: Adeleke finally breaks silence on inconclusive election

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the inconclusive governorship election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has thanked electorate in the state for their kind support in Saturday’s governorship poll.

Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than that of Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting were cancelled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

But, Adeleke in a statement he personally signed on Sunday; said he was honoured to have won considerable votes across all local governments of the state despite the “blackmail” during electioneering campaign.

He, however, appealed to the people to rededicate themselves to the ‘struggle, adding that ‘the tyrants can be forced to submit to the will of the people.

The statement reads, “I sent my appreciation through this medium to Osun voters who find me worthy of their votes. Your votes humbled me and further strengthen my resolve to truly serve our people.

“Despite all the blackmails and persecution, you stand by me, you voted for me and you defended your votes. You adopted me as the rallying point of the redemption movement. Words cannot express the depth of my appreciation.

“We will get to the promised land. It started well and it will end in praise to our dear God. Let us rededicate ourselves to the struggle. You have proved that with determination, the most powerful tyrant can be forced to submit to the will of the people. I appreciate you all.”

PDP blasts INEC says don’t rob us, declare Adeleke winner now

By Nwafor Sunday

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday urged the Independent National Electoral Election, INEC, not to deny the party it divine win, noting that the commission should declare its candidate Ademola Adeleke, winner of the election.

Disclosing this via its tweeter handle, the party averred:

#OsumDecides2018 We reject in its entirety, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) @inecnigeria declaration of the September 22, 2018 Osun State Governorship election as inconclusive.

adeleke

Adeleke

#OsunDecides2018 The process was conclusive and our candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who won a total of 254, 698 votes, is in clear lead and should be immediately declared winner by INEC, having met the requirements of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

#OsunDecides2018 Section 179 (2) (a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, (as amended), is clear and very unambiguous in spelling out the conditions for returning a candidate to the office of governor of a state.

This section states inter-alia, “A candidate for an election to the office of Governor of a State shall be deemed to have been duly elected where…- (a) he has the highest number of votes cast ..and (b) he has not less than one-quarter of all the votes cast….#osundecides2018

The declaration of the election as inconclusive, by @inecnigeria is therefore a sordid robbery of the franchise of the people of Osun State, who participated in the election.

It is obvious that having failed in their schemes to alter the final results due to the resistance of the people, the @OfficialAPCNg had to bear pressure on @inecnigeria to declare the election inconclusive so as to pave way for the perfection of their manipulative schemes”

Ugwuanyi signs health sector reform bill into law

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has taken a bold step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the state through his assent to the state’s Health Sector Reform bill passed into law by the State Assembly.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, who addressed newsmen after the meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO), said the new law will bring a lot of positive changes to the health sector in the state and will comprehensively address health-related issues for the people’s overall benefit.

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

Dr. Ekochin explained that the law has new components that were integrated for positive results, disclosing that the district health system introduced by the colonial government has been repackaged and replaced, accordingly.

He added that the district health boards were also affected by the new law, saying: “We are now going to key into the Ward Health System, which the World Health Organization (WHO) had recommended and was long adopted by the federal government.”

The health commissioner further explained that the law gives the state government the authority to oversee healthcare from the hospital management board, saying that “this hospital management board takes over from health management board that existed before now”.

Dr. Ekochin disclosed that a new agency, the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, will be established immediately “to ensure that the primary healthcare programmes are implemented in Enugu State under one roof, in line with the National primary healthcare care development agency’s guideline.

“This is going to see to further revitalization of primary health care centres at the grassroots designed to provide adequate healthcare services to the rural dwellers,” he said.

Another component of the new law, according to the commissioner, was the Agency for Universal Health Coverage, which he stated has a world health coverage. He revealed that the agency will further expand the Free Maternal and Child Health programme of the state government, which had been in existence for years.

“This programme saw to the free treatment of pregnant women and children under five”, he noted.

NYSC Scandal: Political Office Not Replacement For National Service - NYSC Replies Minister Shittu

TORI News had reported on Friday that an investigative report by PREMIUM TIMES, revealed that the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, did not partake in the National Youth Service Corps scheme, and the minister said he took political office to compensate his deliberate refusal to take part in the compulsory national service.

While speaking to Tribune newspaper, the National Youth Service Corps dismissed the Minister's excuse for refusing to serve his fatherland. The NYSC spokesperson, Adenike Adeyemi, said the minister’s juxtaposition of holding an elective office and undergoing the obligatory national service is an error.

Se said the provisions of the Act are very clear, and there are no exceptions for any person like Shittu who became a lawmaker at the age of 26.

She said “Serving in the National (or state) Assembly is not one of them (conditions for exemption from national service)”.

OPEC raises forecast based on US oil production

The OPEC oil cartel raised its global production forecast Sunday based on higher-than-predicted US output in a report outlining a long-term rise in net demand, particularly in developing countries.

In its annual World Oil Outlook, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries forecast world supply of all hydrocarbons (primarily oil and liquified natural gas) would rise from a current 98.4 million barrels per day (mbd) to 104.5 million by 2023, and 111.9 million by 2040.

The figures are higher than last year’s forecast, with rising production in non-cartel states led by the United States a major factor.

Non-member production overall is forecast to rise by 8.6 mbd to 66.1 mbd by 2023 on higher global demand, the report added, but a relative tapering off from 2020 will see cartel members’ crude production shrug off a medium-term trend fall, OPEC predicted.

The body said demand would continue rising despite electric-powered vehicles taking an increasing market share and political moves to champion renewable energy.

Even so, OPEC predicted a dip in demand growth between 2035 and 2040.

While viewing high demand as healthy, the organisation noted that the trend was fuelled by developing countries undergoing major demographic and general economic expansion.

In contrast, OPEC said demand for oil in OECD countries would fall from the early 2020s, but would still be the number one source of energy through to 2040.

The returning officer mentioned the affected polling units to include Ife north, one polling unit, Ife south, two polling units, Orolu, three polling units and osogbo, one polling unit.

He said a total of 3498 votes were cancelled in the seven affected polling units

“Based on this fact, I cannot declare anyone the winner of the election,” he said.

Osun decides: Why election is null – Lawyer, Ajulo

Renowned lawyer and rights activist, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, has described the gubernatorial election held on Saturday in Osun State as a stillbirth and an exercise in futility.

Ajulo, the head of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Ajulo said the election cannot stand since INEC unlawfully excluded the candidate of National Resistance Movement (NRM), Ms Jumoke Lawoyin, from participating in the election despite the fact that INEC had witnessed the primaries of the party and gave her notice of election.

According to him, all efforts made to ensure that INEC do the needful was abortive as INEC went ahead to conduct the election without correcting the huge anomaly.

“Presently, a pre-election matter is before the Federal High Court in respect of the matter”, the legal practitioner said.

“And a petition will be filed to set aside the election as consequence of the illegal exclusion of a duly presented candidate of NRM.”

Among candidates who participated in the election were Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and Fatai Akinade Akinbade of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

See How Wicked Uncle Battered 11-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

An 11-year-old girl has been left with a swollen eye, after she was battered by her uncle for revealing their family problems to outsiders.

11-year-old girl battered by uncle for revealing family problems.

The 11-year-old identified as Uju, who was subjected to unimaginable heights of maltreatment by her uncle identified as Chibuzor, and his wife after they brought her from the village to live with them, was battered at the couple’s residence at No 29, Akinola Street, Bariga, Lagos.

It was gathered that the girl beaten for revealing their family problems, was saved from more bodily harms by neighbours who intervened.

Neighbours have however called on appropriate authorities to intervene to say the little girl from more bodily harm.

BREAKING News: INEC Declares Osun Election Inconclusive, Adeleke, Oyetola To Battle In Re-run Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Osun state governorship election inconclusive, in a declaration made by Joseph Fuwape, the presiding officer of the election at the INEC headquarters in Osun.

The election, which is one of the closest in Nigeria’s electoral history, was held on Saturday to elect a new governor for the South-Western state.

According to PREMIUM Times, at the end of the collation of votes, the PDP candidate, Isiaka Adeleke, won majority votes of about 254,698 votes while Gboyega Oyetola of the APC came a close second with 254,345 votes. Both leading candidates had a difference of about 354 votes.

“Unfortunately as the returning officer, it’s not possible to declare anybody as the clear winner of the election on the first ballot,” Fuwape said.

He explained that "the total registered voters in the five polling units where elections were cancelled is 3,498 votes. Since that figure was higher than the difference between the votes of the leading candidates, a re-run election had to be conducted.

“I, Joseph Adeola Fuwape, hereby, declare this election inconclusive,” he said.

According to electoral rules, a re-run election can be so declared if the margin of victory in an election is lower than cancelled votes, such as in Osun where thousands of votes were cancelled in various local governments while the vote difference between the leading candidates was less than a thousand. In that case, rerun will be held in only affected areas where elections were cancelled.

INEC is expected to formally announce the rerun any moment from now, as Thursday is being considered for the rerun.

What Atiku said about Obasanjo in Nasarawa

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday reiterated that he has no problem with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Abubakar, who is a Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, made the statement while addressing the Nasarawa State Working Committee and delegates of the PDP in Lafia, the state capital.

“I don’t have any problem with former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, but if he says he has a problem (with me) that is his problem,” Atiku said.

He noted that insecurity, poverty, and hunger are some of the factors affecting the progress of the country adding that Nigerian youths are not lazy people.

According to him, available records have proved Nigerian youths to be excellent sportsmen and women, astute businessmen and women, among others

“If elected President of Nigeria, I will restructure Nigeria by empowering the youth, eradicate hunger and poverty, as well as fight insecurity.

“I promise to develop all the states sharing boundaries with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“This is because most of the people working in the FCT reside in communities located in the neighbouring states.

He promised that delegates from the state would vote for a credible aspirant that would be able to represent the party in the 2019 presidential election.

Skye Bank: CBN’s intervention will ensure depositors’ funds safety, says NDIC

Lagos – The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), said the intervention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by revoking the license of Skye Bank licence was to ensure the safety of depositors’ funds.

Skye Bank
The corporation said this in a statement by the Head, Communications and Public Affairs Department, NDIC, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, on Saturday in Lagos.

It also urged depositors and customers of the defunct Skye Bank to continue to transact their businesses with Polaris Bank Ltd.

The CBN on Sept. 21, announced the revocation of the operating license of Skye Bank due to the inability of its shareholders to recapitalise it since 2016.

NDIC explained that the capitalisation through Polaris Bank Ltd., with the injection of N786 billion was done by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

The corporation said the Bridge Bank model would allow the bank return to soundness and profitability to enable its subsequent sale to credible and financially sound third parties acquirers.

“Furthermore, the adoption of the Bridge Bank model for the resolution SKYE Bank Plc., guarantees that most of the employees of that bank will not lose their jobs.

“They will continue their employment with POLARIS Bank Ltd., under fresh contracts of employment,” NDIC said.

It assured depositors and customers of the defunct Skye Bank that their deposits were safe while encouraging them to continue to transact their normal banking business with POLARIS Bank Ltd.

“The NDIC, as Deposit Insurer, acted to ensure the continued safety of depositor’s funds in furtherance of the regulatory authorities resolve to proactively manage potential threats to financial system stability,” it said. (NAN)

Not All Medical Graduates Will Be Specialists, Some Will Be Farmers - Health Minister

Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has said that not all medical graduates in Nigeria must practice. He said this while responding to a question he was asked by journalists at a function recently.

When asked what he will do as regards the frustration that resident doctors go through after their residency programmes and then can not find suitable places to work, Adewole said, "It might sound selfish, but we can all be specialist. Some will be farmerss, some will be politicians. The man who sews my gown is a doctor. He makes the best gown."

The Minister's comment has since generated a lot of criticisms by social media users.

EPL: Chelsea senior player revea

Chelsea defender, Gary Cahill, has confirmed he will be leaving the club when the transfer window reopens in January.

The former Bolton Wanderers defender had recently announced his international retirement.

The Englishman has not featured for Chelsea this season following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte’s successor.

The player said he understands his new manager’s decision, but having won every domestic and European honour since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2012 he feels the time is right to move on.

The 32-year-old Cahill told Chelsea website, “I don’t want to jump the gun but as things stand at this time, probably, yes [I might have to leave in January].

“Whatever my future holds, in terms of the club, and the relationship I have with the club and the fans, it will have been a huge part of my footballing life. I’ve got maximum respect for everybody here.

“I realise that sometimes you have to make tough decisions and football doesn’t wait for people. ‘Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing.

“First of all, the team’s doing well which is the most important thing. Having been a big part of things for six years, seven years and played a huge part, not just a squad player, I’m definitely finding it difficult this year to deal with that situation.

“I haven’t spoken to the manager [about the situation] yet. I think we will speak soon, just to see where everything is and how the land lies.

“The most important thing here is the team, but I’ve got to look at my situation and my future as well.

“I came back a week before the season started against three defenders who’d been back plenty of time before me.

“Whether that would have changed anything, who knows? It was the latest I’ve ever been back.

“So to go under a new manager, learn a new way of defending and new ideas that he has I am sure he didn’t feel comfortable in putting me in and not knowing that a week before the games so I fully expected to miss the start of the season and we’ve not lost.

“So there’s no arguments from my point of view, hence why I’ve not seen him. When you’re winning games you have to sit tight and suck it up and deal with it. For me to do this all season is going to be very difficult.

“Everything gradually comes to an end or there’s a new challenge around the corner. I’ve been here for six years and won six titles.

“I wore the captain’s armband the majority of the season when we won the Premier League the year before last.

“I wore the captain’s armband last year when we won the FA Cup. I’m proud of my career, of what I’ve done here and what I’ve achieved in such a short space of time.

“For someone to come and do exactly the same [as I’ve done] in six years… I’d like to see how long that would take. I’m proud of that.

“I’ve always been hungry to play football. I’m not a guy who is willing to accept not playing. It’s all about playing. Your career’s short enough as it is.”

Lagos Guber race: Sanwo-Olu campaign train woos Banire, other APC factional leaders

By Olasunkanmi Akoni and Monsuru Olowoopejo

As the gubernatorial race for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket thickens in Lagos State ahead of the party’s primaries, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation, BOSCO, has commenced moves to bring back into its fold, one of the estranged leaders of the party, Dr. Muiz Banire.

Muiz-Banire

Similar move had also been made when the organization, last weekend, visited the immediate past governor of the state and now the Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

It was gathered that the Director General, of the organization, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, yesterday, led the team to visit Banire, immediate past National Legal Officer of APC, at his office on Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja where a closed-door meeting was held that lasted over two hours

According to the source, the meeting deliberated on APC gubernatorial primaries earlier scheduled for September 26, but shifted to 29th.

When asked to shed more light on what transpired at the meeting, the source declined, stressing that the meeting between both groups was strategic.

Another source added: “You know the Banire faction needed to return to the party and getting them back to APC before the primaries would be very crucial for Sanwo-Olu’s emergence as APC candidate for the state.”

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode had returned from Abuja where he had several strategic meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari and National leaders of APC.

Confirming the meeting, BOSCO’s Director of Media, Mr. Sesan Daini, told Vanguard that he was aware of the meeting, saying the meeting was to resolve some of the crisis that had brought factions into the party.

According to him: “We cannot be divided at this time and that is why we have to ensure that all members of APC return to the party.”

2019 election: Wike tells Saraki how to make Buhari sign Electoral Act bill

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has told Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to ensure the passage the Electoral Act.

Governor Wike also told Saraki and the National Assembly not to pass the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, budget if President Muhammadu Buhari refuses to assent the electoral act.

The Governor demanded immediate assent from President Buhari to the bill.

Governor Wike said that the Electoral Act should be in place for the processes of the 2019 elections to be legally kick-started.

Wike said this at the Government House, Port Harcourt, the River State capital during a visit by the Saraki Campaign Organisation to the state governor.

“As leader of the National Assembly, do all you can for the Electoral Act to be passed,” Wike appealed to Saraki.

Saraki is one of the 13 presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He continued, “Once the Electoral Act is passed if it is not assented to, I urge you, people, not to pass the INEC Budget, because INEC budget is based on the Electoral Act. I urge that these things must be taken together”.

BREAKING: Polaris Bank Takes Over Skye Bank

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revoked the licence of Skye Bank Nigeria Plc.

CBN Governor and the Managing Director of the Nigeria Insurance Deposit Corporation (NDIC), Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this on Friday at a media briefing in Lagos.

He also announced the change in the name of Skye Bank to Polaris Bank which takes over the bank.

He said an injection of N786 billion has been made into the bank with the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has been directed to commence the sale process of the bank from Monday.

The revocation of Skye Bank’s operating licence follows the Central bank’s decision to pause its injection of funds processes in the lender.

The regulators maintain that customers deposits safe as management and members of staff will be retained under the new ownership structure.

Meanwhile, the share price of Skye Bank on Friday gained 4.05 percent at 77 kobo.

The stock is expected to be placed on suspension from Monday in accordance with bridge bank procedures.

APC stakeholders in Cross River reject Enoh, Usani’s governorship bid

All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State have raised an alarm over the crisis dogging the party in the state.

In a communique signed by 37 members from the seven local government areas of the Southern Senatorial District of the State namely: Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, Odukpani, Akamkpa, Akpabuyo, Bakassi and Biase, the stakeholders said, “APC is in Dilemma”.

In the document made available to DAILY POST on Friday, the people claimed that the crisis in the party is caused by people from the central senatorial district.

“The Minister of Niger Delta, Pastor Usani Usani wants to enthrone Chairman of the party and Senator Owan Enoh wants to enthrone Chairman of the party.

“Both wants to use this Chairman to manipulate their position and emerge as governor of the state. Both are already in Court that is the crisis the party is facing today.

“We don’t want anybody from the central to contest the governorship position; they have benefited enough and more than any other zones in the state in terms of appointments.

“The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs is from the central senatorial district, the incumbent senator is from there, the State Party Chairman, the Chairman of NDDC Board, Special Adviser to the President on Prosecution and Auditor General of the federation are all from there”, they stated.

“No party in Nigeria has ever assigned a Chairman of the party to a particular zone and in that same zone, we have a governorship position. It has never been done so.

“When a party says a Chairman should come from central, another zone takes governorship position. So if the Chairman of the party comes from the central, the central should allow the governorship position to other zones rather than struggling for it.

“We are talking about party sharing the position fairly, fairly in distribution of positions. On zoning, constitutionally, a governor has only four years to hold office but if he performed well, the people can allow him to continue and do another four years.

“When Donald Duke took his first term, he performed creditably well, in fact the people from the north enjoyed him more than those in the south and central and because of that, we asked him to continue for another four years.

“When Liyel Imoke came in, he was performing well too, but at the tail end he derailed, he is the cause of what we are passing through today. If we have given you your chance of four years and you have not performed well, please don’t go to that are again.”

The group of stakeholders pleaded with the national leadership of the APC to streamline what they are doing and not to allow somebody from the central to contest governorship position, saying, “let it go to the south or north.

“We plead with the party to streamline what they are doing and not allow somebody from the central to contest governorship position, let it go to the south or north.

“APC is in dilemma, we are having problem, and we are saying we don’t want anybody from the central to come in for the position of a Governor. If we throw them out of the game, there will be peace in APC,” they opined.

Healthcare: FG pledges support for innovation guarantying quality services

Mr Ife Adebayo, the Special Assistant on Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, says the Federal Government under the present administration will support any innovation that will guarantee quality services Nigerians.

Adebayo stated this at the “Innovating for Health’’ event organised by Health Innovation Hub, an NGO, in Abuja on Friday.

He explained that the government would not stand in the way but would stand along the way to achieving any innovation that would impact on the lives of Nigerians.

He said that the current administration had launched and supported various innovative projects in different sectors to make businesses and lives easier for people.

The special assistant urged those seeking for innovation to get legislative backing to ensuring that such was legalised by the constitution.

“Anybody seeking for any innovation should collaborate with the National Assembly to have legal backing,’’ he said.

Dr Kunle Kakanfo, a Founder of the hub, had earlier said there was need to try innovation in health sector to make healthcare services accessible and available to people.

Kakanfo explained that such innovation would eliminate the process of timing and unnecessary delay in health facilities.

He said that his NGO which had done a lot on capacity building had started working with other organisations to achieve innovation in health sector.

“We need to widen space for stronger action and opportunities, use of technology is one of it but not the only way to improve the healthcare services, it involves mode of service delivery.

“Customer is a king they say; and it is also in the health sector therefore we must do everything possible to satisfy our clients.

“There is no point of waiting for innovation on new drugs and vaccines from Europe; we can do that ourselves here in Nigeria.

“India has done it; that is why the country is a health tourism destination today,” he said.

Kakanfo assured that his organisation would collaborate with governments and private sectors to open conversation to drive this change.
